Why waterless services?

In nail school we are taught the basic manicures and pedicures where your hands are soaked in warm soapy water as well as your feet. Shortly after nail school I was fortunate enough to work with a veteran nail tech who taught me how she worked on her clients. She never soaked her client's fingers for manicures. For her it was for ease of service and there were other products she preferred to use, I followed suit absorbing all the information she could give me. I ended up leaving the larger salon with four nail technicians and became the only nail technician at a smaller salon, I loved being the only one but felt like I was missing out on bouncing ideas around like the hair stylists did. So, to fix my problem I found fellow nail techs online as well as educational courses. I went to my first tradeshow in 2016 and learned about the Medinail learning center. In 2017 I became an Advance Nail Technician through there program, and I learned the real reason not to use water on fingernails. The reason being, your nails are made of layers of keratin similar to a piece of wood, if you paint wood that is wet once it dries your paint falls off or chips, same with your fingernails.

In 2020 I decided to use the downtime of lockdown to continue my education with Medinail and complete my Medical Nail Technician course, that course ended up taking me 2 years to complete but I am proud to say as of September 2022 I am a MNT! Not much in my mobile abilities have changed but my knowledge has evolved, and the business opportunities are endless! I am staying mobile on my own for now with plans to expand in 2023-2024, with that I have decided to be fully waterless beginning January 2023!

The decision to go waterless in pedicuring was not an easy one. I understand that I am taking away a part of the service that my clients enjoy, but I know that my clients will understand why as well once they experience a waterless pedicure. Waterless pedicures not only save gallons of water, but also is more environmentally friendly by eliminating the plastic tub liners I currently use to limit waterborne bacteria being spread from client to client. In a waterless pedicure, I will use a very precise electric file to debride and smooth callus and toenails, using the e-file allows me to get into the crevices of fissures (cracks) to smooth and could aid in healing them. The skin is less delicate when dry so there is no shredding when the foot is filed to exfoliate and the toenails although thicker than fingernails have the same makeup so without being soaked in water your polish could last longer.

I am very excited to elevate my services and tell you more about expanding Nails by Becca S in the coming year! Thank you for sticking around and reading this blog I hope to write more in the future, and as always thank you for your support without you I would not be able to do what I love and be the mother and wife that I get to be.
